A label (as distinct from signage) is a piece of paper, plastic film, cloth, metal, or other material affixed to a container or product, on which is written or printed information or symbols about the product or item. Information printed directly on a container or article can also be considered labeling.


A ladle is a type of spoon used for soup, stew, or other foods. Although designs vary, a typical ladle has a long handle terminating in a deep bowl, frequently with the bowl oriented at an angle to the handle to facilitate lifting liquid out of a pot or other vessel and conveying it to a bowl.

A replaceable component that produces light from electricity is called a lamp. Lamps are commonly called light bulbs; for example, the incandescent light bulb. Lamps usually have a base made of ceramic, metal, glass, or plastic, which secures the lamp in the socket of a light fixture. The electrical connection to the socket may be made with a screw-thread base, two metal pins that fit into a receiving clamp, two metal caps or a bayonet cap. The three main categories of electric lights are incandescent lamps, which produce light by a filament heated white-hot by electric current, gas-discharge lamps, which produce light by means of an electric arc through a gas, and LED lamps, which produce light by a flow of electrons across a band gap in a semiconductor.

A "sensing bulb" is the temperature sensing device (probe) of a thermometer, RTD, or thermistor.


A latch or catch is a type of mechanical fastener that joins two (or more) objects or surfaces while allowing for their regular separation. A latch typically engages another piece of hardware on the other mounting surface. Depending upon the type and design of the latch, this engaged bit of hardware may be known as a keeper or strike.


A lightbulb socket, light socket, lamp socket or lampholder is a device which mechanically supports and provides electrical connections for a compatible electric lamp. Sockets allow lamps to be safely and conveniently replaced (re-lamping).


A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductorlight source that emits light when current flows through it. Electrons in the semiconductor recombine with electron holes, releasing energy in the form of photons. The color of the light (corresponding to the energy of the photons) isdetermined by the energy required for electrons to cross the band gap of the semiconductor. White light is obtained by using multiple semiconductors or a layer of light-emitting phosphor on the semiconductor device.


A leg is used to support and elevate a piece of equipment or a prep table.  Legs are weight bearing and may be adjustable or locking.  Equipment legs may be made of metal, plastic, or composites. Legs may have built-in leveling feet and can be used with floor glides for mobility.


A lever is a simple machine consisting of a beam or rigid rod pivoted at a fixed hinge, or fulcrum. A lever is a rigid body capable of rotating on a point on itself. On the basis of the location of fulcrum, load and effort, the lever is divided into three types. A lever amplifies an input force to provide a greater output force, which is said to provide leverage. The ratio of the output force to the input force is the mechanical advantage of the lever.


A liner is a protection measure placed inside something to prevent it from getting dirty such as a plastic sheet or film.


A lock is a mechanical or electronic fastening device that is released by a physical object (such as a key, keycard, fingerprint, RFID card, security token, coin etc.), by supplying secret information (such as a number or letter permutation or password), or by a combination thereof or only being able to be opened from one side such as a door chain.

A lock may also be a clamp or a stop designed to prevent the flow of a liquid or the motion of a caster or wheel

Lock Assembly

Parts of a lock assembly include a cylinder or lock body, where a key is inserted. When locked, the cylinder engages a series of spring-loaded pins that keep the cylinder from turning. When a key is inserted, the uneven edge pushes the pins upward to fit the key’s height in that location within the lock body. Essentially, it recognizes the correct key when the pins move into their proper places. This “opens” the cylinder, allowing the bolt to move, and you to open the lock. The lock engages a piece of metal or plastic that extends from the door into the receiver and holds it closed. In addition, a lock assembly may include mounting components, brackets, washers and bolts.


A washer is a thin plate (typically disk-shaped, but sometimes square) with a hole (typically in the middle) that is normally used to distribute the load of a threaded fastener, such as a bolt or nut. Other uses are as a spacer, spring (Belleville washer, wave washer), wear pad, preload indicating device, locking device, and to reduce vibration (rubber washer). Spring washers, which have axial flexibility are used to prevent fastening or loosening due to vibrations. Locking (lock) washers prevent fastening or loosening by preventing unscrewing rotation of the fastening device.


LP is also referred to as liquefied petroleum gas, often shortened to "LP" gas or "LPG". It's an alternative fuel that's a byproduct of natural gas processing and petroleum refining. It's safe, clean, powerful, and reliable.


Louvers are a system of slits, as in the panels used in the manufacture of restaurant equipment, for the purpose of providing ventilation and heat dissipation. Louvers are used extensively in ice machines, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, hood systems and many other kinds of equipment.


Even though propane and natural gas are both fossil fuels that burn similarly, you need to convert your appliances when you make the switch. Because they have different densities and amounts of energy, you must switch out the valves and switches to properly control the flow when switching from one to the other.  Using a conversion kit provided by the equipment manufacturer is the simplest and safest approach.

Most, but not all, appliances can be converted from propane to natural gas. It is important to consult a professional when considering making the switch from propane to natural gas as the work involved is highly technical and can be dangerous if the person doing the work does not have the required experience.


A lubricant is a substance, usually organic, introduced to reduce friction between surfaces in mutual contact, which ultimately reduces the heat generated when the surfaces move. It may also have the function of transmitting forces, transporting foreign particles, or heating or cooling the surfaces. The property of reducing friction is known as lubricity.
