Pumps are commonly used in restaurant equipment to move fluids by mechanical action. Here are just a few examples examples: 

• Pumping water in ice machines
• Pumping hot water in dishwashers
• Pumping oil in a deep fryer
• Pumping syrup or other thick liquids in a dispenser or soda fountain
• Pumping ice cream mix in a soft serve machine
• Pumping condiments such as sauces or dressings  

They can be powered electrically, pneumatically, or mechanically, depending on the specific needs of the equipment.

A screw is a type of fastener, in some ways similar to a bolt typically made of metal, and characterized by a helical ridge, known as a male thread (external thread). Screws are used to fasten materials by digging in and wedging into a material when turned, while the thread cuts grooves in the fastened material that may help pull fastened materials together and prevent pull-out.

A screw drive is a system used to turn a screw. At a minimum, it is a set of shaped cavities and protrusions on the screw head that allows torque to be applied to it. Usually, it also involves a mating tool, such as a screwdriver, that is used to turn it. Other examples include Phillips head screws and screwdrivers, and Allen hex screws and wrenches.

A mechanical seal is a device that helps join systems or mechanisms together by preventing leakage (e.g. in a pump system), maintaining temperature, containing pressure, or excluding contamination. The effectiveness of a seal is dependent on adhesion in the case of sealants and compression in the case of gaskets or o-rings.
