A cable harness, also known as a wire harness, cable assembly, wiring assembly or wiring loom, is an assembly of electrical cables or wires which transmit signals or electrical power. The cables are bound together by a durable material such as rubber, vinyl, electrical tape, conduit, a weave of extruded string, or a combination thereof.
A replaceable component that produces light from electricity is called a lamp or a bulb. Lamps are commonly called "light bulbs". A wide variety of lamps/bulbs are used in restaurant equipment from refrigerators to merchandisers, and ovens to orbital mixers. Lamps usually have a base made of ceramic, metal, glass, or plastic, which secures the lamp in the socket of a light fixture. The electrical connection to the socket may be made with a screw-thread base, two metal pins that fit into a receiving clamp, two metal caps or a bayonet cap. The three main categories of electric lights are:
- Incandescent lamps, which produce light by a filament heated white-hot by electric current
- Gas-discharge lamps, which produce light by means of an electric arc through a gas
- LED lamps, which produce light by a flow of electrons across a band gap in a semiconductor.
A "sensing bulb" is the temperature sensing device (probe) of a thermometer, RTD, or thermistor. The 'bulb' refers to its shape and has nothing to do with lighting.
Control boards are responsible for temperature, timing, activation and actuation, and other operational functions of restaurant equipment and HVAC systems. They may also display information to the user, such as the current ambient temperature, the temperature of a walk-in cooler, or the time remaining on an oven's cooking cycle. Some control boards may also have diagnostic functions and alarms to alert the user to any problems with the equipment. These boards are critical in ensuring personal comfort or the proper operation and optimal performance of restaurant equipment, helping to ensure that food is cooked and stored safely and efficiently.
A solenoid valve is electromechanically controlled using magnetics. When current is passed to the magnet, the valve is actuated, automatically opening or closing the valve as required. Solenoids are commonly used in restaurant equipment to activate the flow of water, syrups, gas and more.
