A regulator is a device for controlling the rate of working of machinery or for controlling fluid or gas flow or pressure. Regulators can be designed to control anything from gases or fluids, to light or electricity. Speed and pressure can be regulated by electronic, mechanical, or electro-mechanical means.

A voltage regulator is a system designed to automatically maintain a constant voltage level. A voltage regulator may use a simple feed-forward design or may include negative feedback. It may use an electromechanical mechanism, or electronic components. Depending on the design, it may be used to regulate one or more AC or DC voltages.

Valves are widely used in different restaurant equipment designs. A valve is a device that regulates, directs or controls the flow of a fluid (gases, steam, liquids, fluidized solids, or slurries) by opening, closing, or partially obstructing various passageways. In an open valve, fluid flows in a direction from higher pressure to lower pressure. 

Valves may be operated manually, either by a handle, lever, pedal or wheel. Valves may also be automatic, driven by changes in pressure, temperature, or flow, allowing control over a variety of operational requirements. 

A solenoid valve is electromechanically controlled using magnetics. When current is passed to the magnet, the valve is actuated, automatically opening or closing the valve as required. Solenoids are commonly used in restaurant equipment to activate the flow of water, syrups, gas and more.
