An "assembly" is set of manufactured parts or components that work together in unison as one mechanism or device. There are many different kinds of assemblies used in restaurant equipment, including:

• Gear assemblies
• Pump assemblies
• Bearing assemblies
• Control panel assemblies
• Heating (exchanger) assemblies
• Motor control assemblies
• Sensor assemblies
• General assemblies

Cams are commonly found in foodservice equipment. A cam is a rotating or sliding piece in a mechanical linkage used especially in transforming rotary motion into linear motion. It is often a part of a rotating wheel (e.g. an eccentric wheel) or shaft (e.g. a cylinder with an irregular shape) that strikes a lever at one or more points on its circular path.

A hinge is a mechanical bearing that connects two solid objects, typically allowing only a limited angle of rotation between them. Two objects connected by an ideal hinge rotate relative to each other about a fixed axis of rotation: all other translations or rotations being prevented, and thus a hinge has one degree of freedom. Hinges may be made of flexible material or of moving components. In biology, many joints function as hinges like the elbow joint.
